Europris, Norway: A successful automation journey that goes on

Europris, Norway’s leading discount chain for daily goods, opened its first store in 1992 and, more than 30 years later, has 282 stores across Norway and is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Full steam ahead

In the autumn of 2017, it was announced that Europris had chosen Swisslog as partner for its new automated central warehouse in Moss, 65 kilometres south of the capital Oslo.

It was the starting point of a long automation journey that, six years later, has been completed in three phases, and is operating full steam ahead with an eye to the future.

The goal from the start was to consolidate six warehouses into one efficient, automated logistics center. The first phase of the automation journey involved constructing an automated pallet warehouse with 65,000 pallet locations and 11 Vectura pallet cranes.

The journey continued with a second phase in 2020 with the introduction of CycloneCarrier, an automated shuttle solution for light goods picking. Phase 3 is an expansion of the high-bay warehouse, bringing it to a total of over 100,000 pallet locations.

We have been using the shuttle system without any problems for more than a year, and it is delivering the efficiency gains we expected. Compared to traditional manual picking, we have increased our efficiency five times with the solution.
