Newport News, VA, October 25, 2016 – Stemilt Growers LLC., leading grower and distributor of apples, pears, cherries and summer fruits, partners with Swisslog to automate its intralogistics processes with a PowerStore Pallet Shuttle at the heart of the system.
Family owned and operated since 1964, Stemilt has a legacy for innovation and sustainability within the farming industry. Developing its Responsible Choice® program in 1989, the company made social responsibility and conservation a top priority through all farming and packing operations. Now in its third decade, Responsible Choice® is an integral part of Stemilt’s culture. “Swisslog’s PowerStore solution is a perfect fit for Stemilt because it aligns with our culture and values by maximizing the efficient use of our space and the efficient use of energy,” said West Mathison, President of Stemilt Growers.
In addition to the PowerStore System, the solution for Stemilt will include SupplyCarrier, ProMove Conveyor and warehouse management software and controls. The pallet shuttle storage and retrieval system will meet Stemilt’s requirements for high throughput while delivering high density storage and low energy consumption. Additionally, the specialty software will optimize functionality and performance, integrating with the company’s existing ERP system. “Swisslog is proud that an innovative company in food distribution like Stemilt has selected us for this critical greenfield project. We look forward to partnering with Stemilt to implement a solution that is uniquely tailored to their operational requirements with proven, innovative technologies like PowerStore.” said Michael Felbinger, Vice President PowerStore Systems.
